Maritime Montering has signed its biggest contract yet with COSCO Shipping Shipyard China.
Maritime Montering has been awarded by COSCO Shipping Shipyard China for the newbuild 4-vessel Sea1 Offshore project. The project covers approximately 15,000 m² of accommodation areas, marking the largest single contract the Group has secured between 1981 and 2025.
The vessels – Offshore Energy Support Vessels (OESV) – will be built by by COSCO Shipping Shipyard for Sea1 Offshore and outfitted by Maritime Montering’s business unit in China.
Each of the four vessels will accommodate up to 120 crew, featuring around 3,600 m² of living and working spaces. Maritime Montering will deliver the full turnkey interior package, including design, engineering, and technical outfitting.
Odd Birkeland, Special Sales: “Sea 1 has been a long-running negotiation process that I have managed over time to demonstrate how strongly we operate as one unified mechanism across our European and Asian business units. Our established reputation and well-structured internal processes played a key role.
Our Business Unit in China, led by Kelvin Zhang, prepared the required calculations and ensured the project could be executed locally. In Norway, the technical review was carried out by Group Sales Manager Zuleyha Cirik and Business Development Manager Steffen Birkeland, making sure our production facilities were ready for cooperation with Cosco Shipping Shipyard.
This collaboration across Maritime Montering companies truly strengthens us — and opens the door to even more contracts.”

Earlier this year, Maritime Montering also signed another contract with CIMC Raffles for the delivery of full turnkey accommodation on two new Ro-Ro cargo vessels for Smyril Line.
With production facilities in Poland and China, and operational business units across seven countries, Maritime Montering continues to expand in ship accommodation, marine furniture, and maritime materials manufacturing.
“China is the world’s largest shipbuilding market, producing nearly 70% of all global tonnage. Our goal is clear: to be a trusted ship-interior partner in both European and Asian maritime hubs”, adds Odd Birkeland.
All six vessels contracted in China this year are scheduled for delivery by December 2027.
